have i told you i’m training to do a 4 mile run at the end of september?

well, i am.  many of my friends (higher ed and non-higher ed) are doing color runs or other fun-themed 5Ks. i’ve been running since summer started as a way to enjoy the sunshine and get my fit on. for my goal-oriented self, i thought it would be a good idea to have something fun to strive for.

and, what better than a 4 mile autumn run.

this has become my new favorite post-workout treat. it’s just the right amount of sweet, a good protein fix, and refreshing after running in the summer sun.

i have been skeptical about green smoothies since my first terrible green juice experience. we won’t talk about that. all i’ll say is that i still shudder at the thought of green juices. i hoping that i’ll be able to revisit the green juice idea next year.

for now, i’ll stick to green smoothies.

green smoothie

yield 1-16oz  serving

2 scoops whey protein
1/4 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1 handful baby spinach
splash of soy milk
2 large spoonfuls plain yogurt
1 ripe banana

throw all of the ingredients into the container of your blender or the cup provided with your immersion blender (like i did). blend until combined. pour into your favorite post-workout glass and drink up.
